Internship FAQ

What is AIESEC?

AIESEC, the world’s largest student organization, is the international platform for young people to discover and develop their potential to activate leadership so as to have a positive impact on society.

In addition to providing over 7,700 leadership positions and delivering over 470 conferences to our membership of over 35,000 students, AIESEC also runs an exchange program that enables over 5,500 students and recent graduates the opportunity to live and work in another country. AIESEC is present in 107 countries and territories worldwide.

What kind of Traineeships does AIESEC LC Bandung offer?

AIESEC offers the following traineeships: Development Traineeship, Educational Traineeship, Management Traineeship and Technical Traineeship.But AIESEC LC Bandung offers only Development Traineeship.

What is a Development Traineeship (DT)?

The students and/or professionals have the opportunity to work in a company,NGO, summercamp, university or organization and will spend the majority of his/her time working in areas related to community development issues. These areas may include children’s rights, environmental issues,education, rural development and entrepreneurship.

The Requirements ?

You need to…

- be under 30 years old

- be able to speak in English

- be open minded, flexible and internationally orientated!

How to apply?

All candidates must apply using the application form and attaching their current CV. Please, e-mail those documents to globalxprogram.aiesecbandung@yahoo.com or just submit to AIESEC office.

What happens after I send the application form and the CV?

- Interview

If you pass the resume review, you will be called for an interview either in a group or individually. The interview process is designed to screen at a basic level for your suitability to participate in a cross-cultural traineeship exchange program. Once accepted onto the program, you will gain access to AIESEC’s international database of traineeships and preparation services.

- Preparation

In order to ensure the quality of the candidates AIESEC LC Bandung is sending abroad, and the quality of your international experience, you must attend the modules of cultural preparation for your traineeship. You are subject to be rejected from a Traineeship Program at any point, if you are not meeting the requirements.

Do I have to pay enrollment fee for participation?

Yes, the enrollment fee for participation depends on the traineeship you chose. For Development Traineeship the participant pays Rp.2.000.000 while signing the contract.

Do I get a salary for traineeships?

The participant does not get a salary if he/she has applied for a DT (development traineeship).

What is the duration of traineeships?

The duration of the internship depends on the organization providing the internship. Usually the DTs are from 8 to 12 weeks. The duration overall depends on the traineeship type you choose.

When do the traineeships start?

The starting date of a traineeship depends on the availability and the status of the traineeship/program.

Is the accommodation and/or food included in the traineeship?

The accommodation and/or food are mainly provided during the DT programs, because they are non-paid traineeships.

Note:

During not all DT programs the accommodation and food come together. Sometimes the program covers only the accommodation. All these points are discussed during the “matching” process.

Where do I stay during the traineeship?

If you are taking a DT, you might be staying either in a host family, hostel, apartment with other Exchange Participants.

Who takes care of the “matching” process?

Each exchange participant (EP) is assigned to an EP manager, who is responsible for finding the desired program and promoting the EP and after that you’ll get the EP Buddy who will assist you during your preparation.

Might that happen that the company (NGO, university,and others) rejects the exchange participant (EP)?

This is totally possible. Usually an acceptance note (AN) is sent to the other side, and the company has 8 days either to accept or reject the EP.

What is an acceptance note (AN)?

AN is a signed paper, which shows the desire of the EP to participate in a give traineeship. The paper states the type of the traineeship, the dates and personal details of the EP.

Is there any penalty fee that I pay if I don’t go to the traineeship I was matched for?

If your form was matched with a company, and you reject going, there might be a penalty fee for you to pay. Because the company makes expenses for your arrival, and rejecting a traineeship when all is ready will cause a lot of troubles with the company. Therefore there might be some “paying” to be done. Your penalaty fee is Rp.1.500.000 but you don’t have to pay the exchange fee (Rp.2.000.000)

Who is responsible for visa/work permit?

Intern is responsible to take care of his/her own visa processes and expenses. After the intern is informed about the official start date of the internship the host AIECES country representative must provide all the necessary documents required for visa/work permit. Interns must review the visa/work permit regulations for the host country prior to purchasing the ticket to travel to the host country.

Does AIESEC LC Bandung pay for travel and Visa expenses?

NO, AIESEC LC Bandung NEVER pays for the travel and visa expenses of the intern. Intern should take care of the travel expenses to and from the country of origin, as well as for the all visa expenses.

Can I extend the internship with the organization I work abroad?

Yes, he/she can extend the internship in the company, in case both sides confirm that fact.

Which countries can I go to for an internship?

AIESEC has representations in more than 107 countries in the world, and intern has the possibility to have internship in all these counties. The availability of the internship in any specific country depends on the organization and the period of time. For DTs we provided some projects ONLY IN SOME DEVELOPING COUNTRIES such as Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, China, Malaysia, Polland, Kyrgysztan, Vietnam, Taiwan, and India.
